Severe Weather Update 10: March 2026 Kona Low Storm

Details 

Weather conditions are improving across Oʻahu this evening. Heavy showers and gusty winds are still possible but the most threatening weather has passed. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant as flooding and widespread power outages are affecting areas across the island. T are no evacuations ordered or expected at this time.

Use caution outdoors and while driving. Numerous road closures remain as crews continue to address storm debris and flood impacts. Follow all instructions from emergency officials and first responders on scene. If a traffic light is out, treat the intersection as an all-way stop. Be aware of pedestrians and road hazards when driving in low light conditions.

Shelter Information:
Shelters remain open tonight for residents and visitors impacted by the storm. Locations and other details can be found at https://p.veoci.com/hnlshelter.

All emergency shelters, except Kāneʻohe District Park, are expected to close at noon tomorrow, Sunday, March 15. Service providers will be on-hand to connect shelter clients with additional resources.
Kāneʻohe District Park will remain open until water levels decrease at Hui Mahiʻai ʻĀina and it is safe for the residents to return.

City Closures:
City offices remain closed tomorrow, Sunday, March 15.

Transfer stations and convenience centers, except Kapaʻa Transfer Station, will resume normal operations tomorrow, Sunday, March 15. Curbside rubbish collection is suspended from Kailua to Lāie and will begin to resume on Monday, March 16. Visit https://honolulu.gov/env to learn more about opala collection on Oʻahu.

Skyline operations may be interrupted by widespread power outages. Check https://honolulu.gov/dts/skyline  for service updates.

Officials are monitoring the situation and will announce updates to City operations ahead of Monday business hours.
